Happy Mother’s Day to All
History of Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day began 150 years ago, when Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker, organized a day to raise awareness of poor health conditions in her community, a cause she believed would be best advocated by mothers. She called it “Mother’s Work Day.” She died in 1905 before it would officially become “Mother’s Day” her daughter Anna Jarvis (same name) would follow through with her legacy.
In 1914 Woodrow Wilson signed a bill recognizing Mother’s Day as a national holiday. Therefore creating a special day to honor mothers. Mother’s Day remains one of the biggest days for sales of flowers, greeting cards, it is also the biggest holiday for long-distance telephone calls. Moreover, churchgoing is also popular, yielding the highest church attendance after Christmas Eve and Easter! Jarvis eventually ended up opposing the holiday she had helped to create, calling it a “Hallmark Holiday.” She died in 1948, regretting what had become of her holiday.

Happy Mother”s Day to you too ,Dawn ! Liked learning the history of The day .I’m afraid I agree with Anna Jarvis though,Too many Hallmark days a year! The joy of being a mother is in looking at your children and grandchildren every day, and the miracle of them, thus every day is Mother’s Day.
